Vertiv is a data center component supplier known for offering power supplies, cooling systems and various other digital infrastructure and equipment required to build and operate data centers.
Today, Vertiv opened its first infrastructure component factory in the Senai Industrial Estate, Johor, which is seen to meet the demand for data center cooling and power supply equipment for the Southeast Asia, North Asia, Australia and New Zealand regions.
The Vertiv factory in Senai is present with an area of 236 thousand square feet and is seen to strengthen Vertiv's capabilities in terms of manufacturing, engineering, logistics and delivery capabilities and regional data center installation. The location of this factory also comes with a unique advantage as it is close to various technology hubs and regional business partners.
Paul Churchill, Deputy President and General Manager of Vertiv who was present at the factory opening ceremony said that Asia is the region that is showing the fastest data center development. The opening of their Senai factory can be seen as the company’s commitment to supplying customers with quality data center components and infrastructure at scale in an efficient and robust manner.
Vertiv’s Senai factory comes with end-to-end manufacturing, assembly and testing capabilities to develop power and cooling systems for AI data centers at various scales to enable their customers to procure and install these equipment faster so that their data centers can be up and running as quickly as possible.
The data center components that will be produced by the factory include Vertiv CoolChip cooling distribution units, Vertiv Power Module and Vertiv Power Skid data center power supply and control infrastructure, and Vertiv SmartRun, their turnkey power supply and cooling infrastructure system.
The reason why the factory was opened in Senai, Johor is because of the rapidly increasing demand for cooling and power supply systems in the region, including North Asia, Australia and New Zealand, so the location of the Johor factory close to ports and various advanced technology sectors allows Vertiv to produce and ship these components to customers in the region very quickly. Vertiv now has 35 data center infrastructure manufacturing plants worldwide.
In Johor, in particular, 17 data centers have started operating out of the 52 AI data centers that have been confirmed for development. Here, it is expected that some of them will also use Vertiv to supply their power supply infrastructure and cooling systems.
With the opening of this factory, Vertiv is expected to bring in 500 professional job opportunities that will develop data center infrastructures when they are operating at optimal levels in 2027.
In addition to the construction and production capacity, the factory also comes with testing facilities for cooling distribution units and power supply control infrastructure to ensure that all infrastructure produced meets Vertiv's own standards, as well as the needs of data center customers.
Vertiv's factory in Senai has already started operating in the first phase, where they have begun developing and testing Vertiv CoolChip cooling distribution units for data centers using NVIDIA GB300 supercomputer products.
By the end of this year, the plant will be operating in its second phase, where they will begin producing Vertiv CoolChip products with a power consumption capacity of 2300W and above for regional data centers. Vertiv expects the cooling and power infrastructure component plant to be fully operational by mid-2027.
