Xiaomi launched a new vehicle brand Sky Nomad or in Mandarin Xiaomi Pengcheng in China yesterday. Under Sky Nomad, a large-sized and comfort-oriented luxury EREV vehicle will be released to differentiate it from their EV brand that focuses more on high performance.
In a tweet shared on X, Xioami CEO Lei Jun said Sky Nomad was developed to meet the demand of the Chinese market for SUVs with large spaces that are smart and can be reconfigured. The current trend is for vehicles with 6-7 comfortable seats. Vehicles are no longer just a means of transportation but also a place of work, used with the family and becoming like a second home.
Therefore, a new Xiaomi Kunlun platform was developed with an SUV body matched with a flat floor and long seating area. Owners can change the interior space to comfortably carry family members, bring pets and transform it into a workspace when needed.
With the EREV system, it can use the gasoline engine to generate electric power for the motor if the battery runs out. It is rumored that the first vehicle under Sky Nomad will be called the N90. It is said to be equipped with a 1.5 liter turbo engine and a 70 kWh battery. The battery range is up to 500 km and the EREV range is up to 1500 km.
It is 5.3 meters long with a capacity to accommodate 5-7 passengers with various configurations to be offered to buyers. Several photos of the N90 being tested have already been leaked showing it having a boxy body.
