AMD has recently updated its technical information database to show confirmation that their upcoming AMD ZEN 6 processor chips will be supported on existing AM5 motherboard series that powers the existing consumer-class AMD Ryzen 7000 and AMD Ryzen 9000 series of processors.
Through the database, we can also see two consumer-class CPU product model codenames in the ZEN 6 series, including Olympic Ridge and Medusa1. Olympic Ridge is seen as a desktop-class CPU offering, while Medusa1 appears to be their next-generation APU offering.
However, the AMD Ryzen 10000 chip offering (name not confirmed) is still unknown as AMD has also confirmed that they will produce ZEN 6 processor chips for their sixth-generation EPYC data center use first.
Technically, AMD has previously said that the AM5 motherboard platform will be supported until at least 2029 even when new processor chips are launched. With this confirmation, AMD users will soon be able to buy the latest AMD Ryzen ZEN 6 chips, and replace their existing chips, at least if they are also using an AM5 motherboard (X870, B850 and so on).
This will provide some relief to owners of the AMD Ryzen 7000 and 9000 series of processor chips because it means that when the AMD Ryzen 10000 series of chips is launched, upgrading the processor chip can be done easily without having to buy a new motherboard, and possibly memory as well, especially with how expensive the components are now.
