Two new companies have received access tokens to Arm's semiconductor chip development technology in an event officiated by the Ministry of Economy through Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir. The two companies, Oppstar Technology Sdn Bhd and Alphaswift Industries Sdn Bhd, have received access tokens for Compute Subsystem (CSS) technology and the Arm Flexible Access (AFA) program.
Meanwhile, two other technology companies have also received access tokens to ARM's semiconductor chip development technology, meaning that a total of eight companies have received the technology tokens and can now begin developing their own semiconductor chip technology using Arm technology as a foundation.
According to Akmal Nasrullah, the four initial companies that received technology access tokens were said to be in the early stages of semiconductor chip technology development and were evaluating access to Arm's intellectual property rights needed to build their own semiconductor chips.
Semiconductor Chips
He also expects that the semiconductor chips built by these local companies will be usable by various industries and will be commercially available by 2030. He said that this is because these companies will need three years to go through the research and development process of this technology, before it is tested and mass-produced.
The CSS technology access token allows technology companies to design and develop their own semiconductor chips using technology IP produced by Arm, which allows them to enter various types of industries such as automotive, automation, computing, data centers and so on.
The AFA access token allows companies to familiarize themselves with ARM's semiconductor chip manufacturing technology that does not require them to produce their own semiconductor chips.
The acceptance of these ARM technology access tokens is also part of the government's plan to train 10,000 professionals in the semiconductor chip manufacturing industry so that they can help the country achieve high-income status, especially when the sector is seen as having high demand.
The Malaysian market is known as a country of choice for global semiconductor chip companies to send semiconductor products for testing and packaging before being sold globally. This expertise is used as a springboard to introduce our own semiconductor chip technology R&D sector.
