At the Tencent Cloud C-Suite Dialogue Malaysia event held today, Tencent Cloud announced that it will open a third cloud availability zone in Johor, which is expected to start operations in November 2026.
This availability zone will serve as a location for various Tencent Cloud cloud services such as Tencent WorkBuddy, Agentic Development Platform, TokenHub, Tencent Hy3 and various Tencent gaming services that require cloud hosting hubs in the region. This third cloud availability zone also serves as a backup for these services for Tencent Cloud’s global cloud services, which currently have 66 availability zones in 23 regions worldwide. “The new cloud region in Malaysia will be a key node in our global infrastructure, while enabling local enterprises to expand operations in the region and accelerate AI-based innovation. Aye Solutions and YTL Telecommunications are also using Tencent Cloud’s eKYC solution as their customer authentication system, while palm-based biometric technology is being introduced through OpenSys Technologies and SOCOE.
Meanwhile, Tencent Cloud also announced new partnerships with digital payment platform Boost and conglomerate Genting Group, where both companies will integrate agentic AI solutions into their workflows and various other services.
Tencent Cloud also announced a partnership with Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) to provide AI and cloud services talent development initiatives and programs, industry certifications and innovation training programs for 1000 digital and AI talents in Malaysia.
Some of these initiatives and programs include the Cloud Innovation Hackathon, Train-the-Trainer AI & Cloud Programme, and Tencent Cloud Certification Programme which aim to provide students and educators with practical experience using AI technologies that are relevant to the needs of industries that are increasingly using AI technology today.
These announcements made by Tencent Cloud are seen as part of the Malaysian government's ambition to make the country a major hub for regional cloud and artificial intelligence technology providers.
