Google appears to be testing a new feature related to its artificial intelligence services—specifically, paying content publishers when their content is utilized in AI Mode, AI Overviews, or Gemini. Google refers to this as "AI Contribution," and the process appears to be managed via Google Search Console.
Currently, a select group of publishers has access to this feature. This move allows content publishers to generate revenue through Google even without receiving clicks from visitors searching for the relevant information.
Google is still in the pilot testing phase for this feature, and several details remain unclear—such as whether it will be limited to specific countries and how the payment calculations will be structured. Nevertheless, for many content publishers, the introduction of this feature may come as a welcome relief in the current AI era.
