The Copilot+ PC branding was introduced two years ago, replacing the earlier "AI PC" designation. At the time, the Copilot+ PC label was applied to Windows 11 computers that met the minimum processing power requirement of 45 TOPS needed to run various Copilot features. However, Microsoft has confirmed the discontinuation of this branding, according to a report by Windows Central.
Brett Ostrum, Corporate Vice President for Surface, confirmed that the Copilot+ PC brand is being retired. Moving forward, marketed Windows 11 computers will simply be labeled as meeting the standards required to run Copilot. Notably, the Copilot+ PC branding was absent from the launch of new Surface devices this week and from all new PCs released this year.
This is likely because the chips used in modern PCs now come equipped with NPUs offering sufficient processing power; consequently, dropping the branding will help avoid confusing consumers.
