Xiaomi Auto has announced plans to enter the European electric vehicle (EV) market in 2027 with Germany as the first launch location. The announcement was made during the IFA Berlin 2026 event and marks Xiaomi's official move to venture into the European automotive industry.
As an initial step to enter the European market, Xiaomi Auto has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with eight major dealer groups in Germany. Among those involved are Ernst Dello, Autohaus Dinnebier, Emil Frey Germany, Fett & Wirtz Automobile, Hahn Automobile, LUEG Mobility, Penske-Jacobs Innovation and SPT Avio.
This MoU is a statement of initial intent and does not legally bind both parties to continue the collaboration. At present, Xiaomi has also not disclosed further details such as the number of dealers that will operate, sales areas, prices or vehicle models that will be offered.
Since launching its first electric vehicle (EV), the SU7 in 2024, Xiaomi has shipped over 700,000 units in the domestic Chinese market. This achievement makes it one of the fastest-growing newcomers in the electric automotive industry.
The SU7 Series model reached 500,000 units in just 28.5 months, while the YU7 SUV received over 240,000 bookings within 18 hours of its launch. In July 2026, Xiaomi also expanded its offering by introducing a new Range-Extended EV (REEV) segment through the SkyNomad series.
The European market is a prime target due to its mature automotive industry and the European Union’s green energy policies that are driving demand for electric vehicles. However, Xiaomi faces challenges such as high import tariffs and competition from big brands that have long been established in the region.
By building local distributors, Xiaomi Auto is confident that it can adapt and compete in the European market. 2027 will be the year that will determine whether their success in China can be taken to the global stage or not.
