Following reports earlier this afternoon regarding Maxis’s consideration of a merger with U Mobile, Maxis has neither denied nor confirmed the news. Speaking to Bernama, Maxis stated that it would share any corporate developments with the market at an appropriate time.
This comment from Maxis comes in response to inquiries regarding reports that the company has initiated discussions for a potential merger with U Mobile. Such a move would likely create a telecommunications giant, surpassing even CelcomDigi in scale.
It is worth noting that Maxis previously explored the acquisition of U Mobile around 2024, though those discussions did not result in an agreement. Given the current market landscape, both telecommunications companies may now be more open to revisiting merger talks.
