Authorities in Taiwan have blocked Grab’s proposed acquisition of FoodPanda’s operations in the country. This decision stems from concerns regarding the impact on market competition, with the potential for Grab to establish a monopoly.
Previously, in March, Grab had expressed its intention to acquire FoodPanda’s Taiwan operations for $600 million—a move that would have facilitated Grab’s entry into that market. However, Taiwanese authorities concluded that the negative impact on competition would outweigh any economic benefits the acquisition might bring.
Grab has expressed disappointment regarding this outcome, stating that it will continue to focus its resources and capital on driving further expansion and enhancing its service offerings across the region.
