Design and Usability

To avoid confusion, the DJI Mic Mini 2 is an upgraded version of the DJI Mic Mini, though it still sits below the DJI Mic Mini 2S in terms of performance. The design of the Mic Mini 2 is stylish and vibrant; you can swap out the magnetic front cover for different color options. The overall construction features a matte-finish plastic, giving it a very polished, neat appearance.

The Mic Mini 2 transmitter is exceptionally lightweight and compact. Weighing only 11g, it sits neatly when attached to clothing without causing the fabric to sag or droop. The transmitter includes two buttons: a power button and a pairing/connection button. On the underside, there are contact pins for charging when placed inside the storage case.

The receiver, meanwhile, features a simple and minimalist design, with a dial on the front used to adjust the audio gain (input level) of the transmitter. On the left side, there is a 3.5mm port for connecting to a camera, along with a pairing button. The right side features only the power button used to turn the receiver on. This design is identical to the original DJI Mic Mini, with no significant changes.

Whether the lack of an onboard recording feature is a drawback depends entirely on an individual's or a production team's specific workflow. If you frequently require separate, independent audio recordings, this might not be the right choice for you. However, if you are a content creator just starting out, this feature may not be a top priority.

The charging case—which holds two transmitters and one receiver—also retains the same design as the original Mic Mini. There are four LED indicators on the front that display the battery status of the charging case. According to DJI, the Mic Mini 2 system offers a total battery life of up to 48 hours before needing a recharge.

The Mic Mini 2 offers two connection methods: via the receiver (connected to a camera or smart device using USB-C) or directly to a smart device via Bluetooth. In my experience, both methods are straightforward and hassle-free to use.

According to DJI, the Mic Mini 2 can last up to 11.5 hours on a single charge. In my own experience—after using it for over two weeks—I only needed to charge the case once. My usage pattern involved keeping ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) disabled and connecting the system to a smart device via the receiver.

Audio Quality

The audio quality produced by the DJI Mic Mini 2 is quite good, even though it lacks professional-grade features like 32-bit recording. Beyond that, I have no negative points to mention regarding this microphone. All the videos I recorded using this microphone as the audio source sound clear and loud; however, upon initial use, I found the audio gain to be somewhat low, requiring me to manually increase it via the receiver.

The DJI Mic Mini 2 also features a two-level noise cancellation function. The first level—or "basic" mode—is, in my opinion, best suited for environments that aren't overly noisy, such as an office, or for eliminating sounds like those from air conditioning units.

In this mode, the voice remains natural and clear while background noise is reduced. As for the second level—or "strong" mode—I personally prefer not to use it; it is really only appropriate for very noisy environments. While it significantly reduces background noise, it also makes the voice sound less natural.

Additionally, the DJI Mic Mini 2 includes a "low-cut" filter, which helps reduce ambient sounds like those from air conditioning. This feature works exceptionally well when combined with the microphone's first-level noise cancellation. There is also a "clipping control" feature, which adjusts audio levels to prevent the sound from becoming too loud and causing distortion (clipping).

Conclusion

Starting at RM239, I feel the DJI Mic Mini 2 is a great value for all types of content creators. It is a well-rounded microphone packed with useful features that deliver excellent audio quality. If you are aiming for professional-grade quality, this might not be the right choice; the DJI Mic Mini 2s would be better suited to your needs.
