WFH Makes Anxiety Every Time You See WhatsApp, Do You Too?

For some people, working from home (WFH) feels easy because they don’t have to go anywhere during traffic. But WFH also poses mental health problems, one of which is WhatsApp restlessness or restlessness every time you see a WhatsApp notification.
Quoted from the Huffington Post, Wednesday (19/5/2021) some people consider small but common interactions through chat to get rid of boredom and anxiety due to isolation. But for others, spreading the message will have the opposite effect.

Work -related message notifications clearly request immediate response. But other than that, the latest news and information related to COVID-19 also spread, not to mention the spread of deception, which added to the anxiety.

“When you receive unwanted or unwanted content, it creates a sense of helplessness that we want to avoid,” says psychotherapist Lucy Beresford.

WhatsApp is indeed making communication with anyone faster and easier, especially in an epidemic like now. Still, in a work context, WhatsApp can be a scary specter.

If the smartphone turns off at night, then you see incoming messages from a colleague or office WhatsApp group, you can feel anxious and think about important things happening in the office.

In addition, the increasing number of messages you haven’t had time to read from office groups can also make you anxious because you feel like you don’t have an important discussion. This can keep you always thinking about work even if it may be outside of working hours.

So, how do we stay in touch while maintaining mental health? Digital detox consultant Martin Talks says, if you’re overwhelmed by seeing so many WhatsApp messages, try managing the use of the chat app.

1. Avoid regularly checking WhatsApp

Martin Talks recommends that you only participate in any WhatsApp group once a day, and don’t make WhatsApp the first thing you do when waking up in the morning and the last thing you do before bed.

2. Turn off WhatsApp notifications

You won’t hear a sound or notification every time a message comes in, so you don’t always get a shadowed incoming message and don’t feel pressured to reply right away.

3. Disable data

This method will ‘turn off’ WhatsApp without deleting the app, but you can still check for messages immediately after opening the app. This method can help you control the use of WhatsApp.

Hopefully this method can at least alleviate your WhatsApp worries.
