Unlimited Google Photos Is No Longer Free, Here Are 5 Alternatives

Google Photos will discontinue its free unlimited photo storage service starting June 1 tomorrow. The good news is, you don’t have to worry because there are many other photo storage apps out there.
But there are a few things to consider before switching to alternative services as not all are free and offer comprehensive ones like the Google Photos feature.

After this free unlimited photo storage service ends, Google Photos users must use the 15GB free storage allocation from Google Drive. If you want more storage space, users can subscribe to Google One for a monthly fee of 100 GB.

Google Photos not only offers a cloud for storing photos, but users can also quickly search for photos by date, location, and even someone's face. These features are not available on many competing services.

Here are five alternative photo storage services to replace Google Photos, which are no longer free, as reported by the Android Authority, Monday (31/5/2021).

1. Amazon photos

Amazon Photos offers unlimited photo storage for free. But you must subscribe to the Amazon Prime service first to be able to access it.

But to store videos and other files, only 5GB of space is available. Its features aren't as complete as Google Photos, but you can search for photos by keyword and the app can sync photos automatically.

The unlimited photo storage service on Amazon Photos can also be used by six family members with one subscription fee. But if you unsubscribe from Amazon Prime, the saved photos will no longer be accessible and there is a possibility that the photos will be permanently deleted.

2. Dropbox

Dropbox is one of the most popular cloud storage services. With this service, you can automatically save all the photos on your phone to the cloud, just like Google Photos.

Unfortunately, the storage space on the free version of Dropbox is very limited to just 2GB. Much smaller than the free 15GB version of Google Photos. Subscription fees are also more expensive than competitors.

3. Flickr

Flickr is better known among photographers for sharing high quality photos. But the service can also be used by casual users looking for an alternative to Google Photos.

Storing free photos on Flickr is currently limited to 1,000 photos. If you want to use the unlimited version, be prepared to spend IDR 90 thousand a month or IDR 850 thousand a year.

4. iCloud

IPhone and iPad users must be familiar with this app. With iCloud Photos, you can securely store photos in the cloud and access them from other devices.

Users of the free version of iCloud are given 5GB of storage space. Fortunately, the cost of expansion of storage space is not so expensive, starting from Rp 14 thousand per month for 50GB to Rp 140 thousand per month for 2 TB.

If you want a cheaper one, you can combine it with other service subscriptions through Apple One. But since Apple has yet to bring official iCloud support for Android phones, this option is more suitable for iPhone users.

5. OneDrive

This cloud storage service from Microsoft can be seen as an alternative to Google Photos. Usually users of laptops and computers running Microsoft Office already have access to OneDrive.

You can download the OneDrive app on your phone to automatically save photos to the cloud. This gallery allows users to automatically find and tag photos based on their content, such as Google Photos.

The free version of OneDrive currently has limited storage at 5GB, but you can get 100GB of storage by paying IDR 28,000 a month. Microsoft 365 customers can also get 1TB of storage for free.
