Australians who have received the COVID-19 vaccine can now carry proof of digital inoculation in their Apple Wallet. This is thanks to new integration with the Express Plus Medicare application in Australia.
According to a report from Tap Down Under, the Australian government this week launched the COVID-19 digital certificate which supports digital wallets such as Apple Wallet and Google Pay.
Having a copy of this certificate will certainly make it easier for users if they are carrying out activities that require vaccination status.
The Australian government’s official website explains that Australians can access their digital certificates through the Express Plus Medicare app or my.gov.au.
Those using the Express Plus Medicare app for iOS are already logged into the country’s Medicare service and simply select ‘Immunization History’ from the Services menu and tap its name.
The COVID-19 digital certificate will appear with the option to add the document to Apple Wallet or Google Pay.
To access digital certificates online requires users to log in with a myGov account, go to the Medicare section and select ‘View statement’ under ‘Immunization history’. A PDF version of the certificate can be created for storage in the Wallet.
Like passes, tickets and other coupons stored in Wallet, COVID-19 Australia digital certificates can be uploaded to iCloud and synced across all devices connected with the user’s Apple ID.
Australian digital certificates come days after the UK introduced its own ‘vaccination passport’ with Wallet support. The document, called the NHS COVID Pass, is available to vaccinated individuals and can be downloaded from the NHS app for iOS.
