Don't Buy Used Crypto Mining GPUs, Don't!

The rise of crypto mining raids has made miners sell graphics cards previously used to mine crypto assets at low prices.
This low price is of course very attractive, especially in the current situation. This is where the price of a new graphics card is still very high compared to the selling price recommended by the manufacturer.

However, according to Palit, one of the graphics card manufacturers, they do not recommend consumers buy graphics cards previously used for mining as it will experience a significant performance decline.

From the results of independent testing by Palit, the performance of GPUs that have been used for mining for a year will decrease by 10%. Because when used for mining, the graphics card will be upgraded to 100% continuously.

Even so, Palit also noted that this decline in performance does not always occur. Especially if the miner can make sure the graphics card gets adequate air supply or even undervolts, the performance drop may not be too noticeable.

But often miners do not pay attention to this. They operate their machines in tight places with insufficient air circulation and high temperatures. This can trigger oxidation on the soldered parts as well as reduce the performance of heat pads and pastes that conduct heat from the chip to the water sink.

In addition, the graphics card used for mining may have been modified. Such as changing the cooling system to maximize mining results, which will void the warranty of the graphics card.

Palit certainly doesn’t get any revenue from consumers who buy used graphics cards, so it’s reasonable if they recommend this. But the reason for their proposal is reasonable.

How about you, do you want to buy a former mine graphics card or not?
