Google 'Secret Office' Burns Scorched

The mansion belonging to Google co-founder Larry Page in Old Palo Alto, California, USA caught fire on Tuesday (14/9) night. Locals also suspected that the luxury house was secretly used as a secret office.

Firefighters came to Page's house at 8:10 p.m. after a neighbor noticed an oddity on CCTV cameras. One of the neighbors who called 911 said he saw gray smoke on the CCTV camera. Several neighbors also reported loud noises thought to be coming from broken windows.

According to a Palo Alto Online report as seen Monday (20/9/2021), a local resident said the house was owned by Page or even by Google itself. Neighbors also suspect the house is being used as an office illegally by a group of technology employees.

This two - story house that caught fire cost USD 11 million . Land agency records say the house is owned by a firm with the same address as the Page family's foundation. But it is not known who is currently living in the mansion.

Someone told The Daily Beast that Page bought the six-bedroom house several years ago and used it as a guest house. At the time of the incident, 6 of the so-called neighbors working in the 'secret office' were not present. The house is empty.

However, the neighbors on either side of the house had to be evacuated, from where the neighbors told about the allegations of this secret office. When the fire broke out, two firefighters suffered minor injuries. Officials from the Palo Alto Fire Department said the blaze started at the back of the house but the cause was still being investigated.

One of Page's neighbors, Diane Christiansen, said Page owns a number of homes in the area and is very private. He said that some of Page's houses were occupied by his family members and some were rented out.

The property complex owned by Page in Old Palo Alto has always been in the spotlight of the local community. While purchasing several homes in the area recently, Page was planning a major renovation that would include digging a large hole underground.

Neighbors feared the project would affect underground water supplies, and led to speculation that Page was building an underground bunker.

At the time of the fire, Page was not even in the United States. After a long absence, Page is known to have been hiding in Fiji during the COVID-19 pandemic, where some locals believe the billionaire has bought a private island.

In January 2021, the man with a fortune of USD 120 billion also managed to obtain a residence permit status in New Zealand at a time when the country was still closing its borders to foreigners.
