WhatsApp Designs a Feature to Turn Voice Notes into Text Messages

WhatsApp will continue to get new features. Their plan is to prepare voice notes so that they can become text messages.

WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp is developing an update for iOS. This update allows users to convert voice messages to text messages.

This feature works with the transcription process. To do so, WhatsApp will channel the user's voicemail to a server. However, this time they will not use WhatsApp servers.

In fact, Facebook as the owner of WhatsApp is also not involved in testing the new feature. This feature will be assisted using Apple technology.

The voicemail will then be routed to Apple's servers to be transcribed into text. This feature was developed with speech recognition technology designed by the iPhone maker.

This new feature is optional. That means, users are given the freedom to use this feature. If the user wants to use it, WhatsApp will ask for approval first.

WhatsApp users will be asked for permission to share data with Apple. This is done to access the phone's voice detector, which is used to record voice notes.

Later, the voice messages transcribed by WhatsApp will be displayed in text form. Well, the text will also be stored locally -- on each user's phone -- in the WhatsApp database.

This latest feature makes sending messages faster via the WhatsApp application, especially for the need for voice to text transcription. However, it has not been announced when this voicemail transcription feature will be released.
