Samsung will be overtaken by Apple thanks to the iPhone 13

After controlling the cellphone market in China, Apple is now also predicted to overtake Samsung's market share for Q4 2021.

This prediction was released by Trendforce by calculating the number of production supply components for mobile phones, and they predict the iPhone market share in Q4 2021 will reach 23.1%, up from 15.9% in Q3 2021, and overtake Samsung from the top position.

According to Trendforce, Apple has benefited from high demand during the holiday season and better component supply chain management than its competitors.

In Q3 2021, Apple is in 2nd place with 15.9% market share and Samsung is at the top with 21.2%. For Q4 2021, Trendforce predicts Apple's market share will soar to 23.2% and Samsung's to fall to 19.4%.

Meanwhile, the positions three to five remain the same, which are occupied by Oppo, Xiaomi, and Vivo.

But overall, Trendforce also said that global mobile phone sales are still hampered by the uncertainty of economic conditions and the scarcity of components that are still happening today.

"Demand in the mobile market showed improvement during the second half of the year due to increased promotional activity in e-commerce and the easing of COVID-19 cases in regions such as Southeast Asia. However, there is a significant shortage of components for 4G SoCs, low end 5G SoCs, display panel driver ICs, and more," Trendforce wrote in its report.

Previously, there was also a report from Counterpoint which stated that Apple overtook Vivo's market share for the mobile phone market in China in October 2021. Apple's growth reached 46% compared to the previous month.

In October 2021, Apple had a market share of 22%, ahead of Vivo with a market share of 20% and Oppo with a market share of 18%. Meanwhile, Huawei's market share fell to 8%

The biggest contributor to Apple's cell phone sales growth was the iPhone 13. Meanwhile, other Chinese manufacturers only experienced 2% growth compared to the previous month, in stark contrast to Apple's 46% growth.
