CEPI played a major role in overcoming the Corona pandemic by investing in several vaccines which later proved to be effective. But in the future, Bill Gates wants this institution to do even more so that the world doesn't have to suffer from a pandemic.
"Creating a new vaccine is not enough. We also have to make sure everyone has access to it and that is where the world is failing to respond to COVID. Despite 9 billion doses distributed last year, less than 1% went to people in low-income countries," said Bill Gates.
"We must do better next time as the world faces pathogens that have the potential to trigger a pandemic. I believe that the world can and should be ready to develop new vaccines and make them available to everyone within 6 months after a potential pandemic is detected," he said.
This is where CEPI is expected to play a major role in terms of coordination. Bill Gates also imagined that the Corona pandemic might not have happened had the world been better prepared for it.
"Imagine how different the last two years would be if everyone had access to a safe and effective COVID vaccine within 6 months. We have a chance to make sure the world never faces this suffering again. Investing in an organization like CEPI is an important step that lets us go further. close to a world without a pandemic," concluded Bill Gates.
