Gmail App Reaches 10 Billion Downloads on Play Store

In early 2022 the Gmail app hit a new record with 10 billion downloads on the Google Play Store since it was first launched on April 1, 2004.

This figure represents 53% of the email market in the US. This makes Gmail the fourth app in the Play Store to reach this milestone.

Not only Gmail, on January 11, 2022, Google's other services, namely Chrome and Google Search, have also surpassed 10 billion downloads on the Play Store.

While Google Photos lags slightly behind with more than 5 billion downloads as reported by us from Digital Trends, Monday (17/1/2022).

Gmail itself is available in 72 languages around the world. The Gmail app currently ranks only second in the US after Apple's email app on the iPhone as the most popular email client.

In October 2018, the number of Gmail users reached 1.5 billion. Gmail tends to be preinstalled on most Android devices and as most users are increasingly using smartphones it's no wonder this number will continue to grow rapidly.

As of April 2021, Gmail holds 27.2% of the email client market share in the US. In the future of Gmail there is an iPhone email client with a market share of 38.9%.

Gmail is the clear leader in new web email openings, iPhone email service is the clear leader in new mobile email openings.

Apple is expected to hold the number one position overall in the United States this decade. This is due to the growing popularity of the iPhone series which consistently accounts for more than 45% of the American smartphone market share.

However, if Google is able to increase the speed of its opening Google has the potential to catch up with Apple.
