Imitating TikTok, Twitter Tries Quote Tweet Feature Using Video

Twitter announced it was testing a feature called 'quote tweet with reaction'. If a normal tweet quote can only give a reaction in the form of text, with this new feature users can embed the tweet into a photo or video.

This feature is currently in the testing phase on iOS. If you are one of the lucky ones to get this feature first, the way to access it is to press the retweet button, then select the 'Quote tweet with reaction' option.

Once tapped, the option will take you to a new screen to take a photo or record a video of your reaction. You can also select photos or videos that are already in the phone gallery.

This new Twitter feature is similar to the video replies feature on TikTok. Instagram also recently replicated the feature for interactions on Reels.

Although it hasn't been officially released yet, some Twitter users are concerned that this feature will make harassment and bullying worse. Twitter spokeswoman Viviana Wiewall said users currently do not have the option to set who can quote tweets with reactions because this feature uses a standard tweet quote system.

Whereas Twitter users are now able to limit unwanted interactions by limiting who can reply to their tweets.

"The safety of people on Twitter is our priority and while we don't anticipate this feature being used to harm, we will monitor product use closely and ensure that any abuse is adjudicated in accordance with Twitter's rules," Twitter said in a statement. 9/1/2022).

In addition to the quote tweet with reactions feature, Twitter is also testing a new design that allows users to write tweets from the main timeline, without the need to open the compose page.

Twitter doesn't specify which countries will be able to access the trial of this feature. The company with the bird logo also didn't say when this feature would be available to all users.
