Disney Selected ITB Student to Illustrate the Turning Red Movie Poster


 Indonesian women have a lot of amazing potential. Not only recognized in Indonesia, but also in foreign countries. Recently, proud news came from a student at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) named Emmanuelle Elizabeth. He was chosen and trusted by Disney to make the poster illustration for the movie Turning Red. Cool!

On Tuesday (29/3) Twitter accounts @PixarTurningRed and Instagram @pixarturningred uploaded an illustration of the Turning Red film poster with a different feel from the official poster at the beginning of the film's release. Interestingly, the upload of the film poster includes a credit in the description section of "Poster by: Emmanuelle Elizabeth".


Emmanuelle is a 2020 student of the Visual Communication Design study program at the Faculty of Art and Design (FSRD) ITB. If you look at her Instagram account, @emmanuelle.elizabeth, this woman often uploads illustrations with cheerful nuances.


Inspired by Disney Movies From Childhood


Disney films have been a favorite of many people since childhood, and Emmanuelle is no exception. Through various Disney films that she has watched since childhood, Emma is inspired to create her works to this day.


"One of the things that really inspires me the most are Disney movies that have been my pleasure since childhood. I don't know why I always feel very excited to live every time I watch a Disney movie," said Emmanuelle, quoted from the ITB page.


Emma's passion for Disney films is poured into her style and characteristics in her work. Until finally, a golden opportunity that he did not expect came to him. The Disney team asked him to make a poster for a Pixar movie called Turning Red.


Feeling Connected with the Main Characters of Turning Red Film


When she got the opportunity to make an illustration for the movie poster for Turning Red, Emma was overjoyed.


"When I found out Disney asked me to illustrate a poster from the movie Turning Red, I was so excited and excited because I personally felt very connected to the film," Emma said.


Not only that, Emma also admitted that she felt very relatable and connected to the main character in the film. He and the main character in the animated film are both of Chinese descent.


"As a Chinese Asian, I really like this film because Pixar Turning Red tells a very relatable story related to self-acceptance, friendship, and the things we all experience when we are teenagers," said the ITB Visual Communication Design student.


Turning Red itself is an animated film about a 13-year-old girl named Mei of Chinese-Canadian descent. It is said that Mei has to be a dutiful child to her parents, but also wants to live a free teenage life.



Turning Red Film Poster Illustration Making Process


Emmanuelle shares her process of illustrating the Turning Red movie poster. In her work, Emma has to go through several stages, one of which is understanding the story the film is trying to convey.


"I also find out a lot about who the audience is for, what's unique about this film, and what's interesting about this film in my eyes as an illustrator," said Emma.


Not only does she want to highlight the main character "May" in the film Turning Red, Emma also wants to show the oriental culture that is thickly told in the film.


"I really like the Chinese culture that Pixar depicts in this film, so on the poster I drew the roof of the temple and also carved a red panda as the border of the poster," said Emmanuelle.


Emma had a special challenge when she made the Turning Red movie poster. According to him, the toughest challenge is at the stage of looking for ideas and sketches. However, he managed to handle it by setting the mood and making the points he wanted to convey in the poster.


Throughout the process of making posters, Disney admitted that Emma was quite cooperative. Disney gave a tight deadline and a systematic review stage. Emma also feels directed and enjoys every process of her work.


"I absolutely love watching #turningred, what an amazing job everyone at @pixar has done. But more so, what an amazing, fun, relatable job that has been done with all the women involved. this amazing opportunity and sends so much love to the team at @disney and @scopioimages," Emma wrote on her Instagram account.
