AMD Promises Ryzen 7000 Will Reach 5GHz

At the Computex 2022 event, AMD made a promise regarding its newest processor, the Ryzen 7000, which was promised to break the 5GHz speed limit.

The Ryzen 7000 was first introduced to the public in January, built using the 5nm process and using the AM5 motherboard platform, supporting DDR5 and PCIe 5.0, as quoted by The Verge, Monday (23/5/2022).

But now AMD promises that the processor will have a clock speed or speed above 5GHz, which according to AMD will be the first desktop processor that can do this.

In its presentation at Computex 2022, AMD showed off the Ryzen 7000 processor with a speed of 5.5GHz when used to play Ghostwire: Tokyo, matching the turbo speed of the Intel Core i9-12900KS.

Both AMD and Intel already have laptop processors whose turbo speeds can penetrate 5GHz. However, its performance when operating above 5GHz is not faster than desktop processors with lower speeds.

In addition to speeds above 5GHz, Zen 4 is promised to have 15% higher single threaded performance than Zen 3. Single threaded performance is arguably still very important for now, because many applications only rely on single threaded, including a number of games.

AMD also boasts of the Ryzen 7000's power consumption, even though motherboards with AM5 sockets can now deliver up to 170W of power, up from the previously rumored 142W.

Oh yes, AMD also mentions that every Ryzen 7000 chip will be equipped with integrated graphics from the RDNA2 line. So, users only need to add a discrete graphics card if they really need it, whether for gaming, content creation, or otherwise.

For information, in previous generations, only certain series of Ryzen processors were equipped with an integrated graphics card, which was referred to as APU by AMD.

Not much information is shared by AMD, including the line of processors that will be available. But they will release these processors starting next summer.
