Google Home Products Will Support Matter Standards Beginning End of 2022

Project Connected Home over IP (CHIP) or now Matter is a standard for standardizing connectivity on connected devices (IoT). These connected devices are smart devices such as smart bulbs, vacuum robots, speakers and smart screens, other smart electrical items that always need to communicate with each other as well as with consumer devices.

Matter also is for all device manufacturers that have IoT products, can be used with each other. This means, products with Google Assistant, Siri or Alexa can all communicate with each other.

Google has been preparing for the past year, so they are planning a device product that can also be connected with Fast Pair.

At the Google I/O 2022 event, Google revealed that their product will support the Matter connection system around the end of the coming 2022. This Matter connection requires WiFi as well as a Thread connection with a router for a smoother experience.

Among the Google products that will support Matter through software updates are Google Home, Google Mini, Nest Mini, Nest Hub (first and second generation), Nest Hub Max, Nest Audio, and Nest Wifi. For Nest Wifi, Nest Hub Max, and second generation Nest Hub, these products will also serve as Threads for Matter.

Google will also be expanding the Works with program to work with other manufacturers to support Matter and Google Assistant extensions. Meanwhile, the name Works with Hey Google has been changed to Works with Google Home so that all Matter products can use Google Home and no longer require many applications.

After all products are updated and more products are launched with Matter, connections between devices such as settings and connections for comprehensive use will be smoother and easier.
