Artificial Intelligence (AI) or artificial intelligence is getting more sophisticated from day to day. Even experts from Google believe that at this time, artificial intelligence has almost matched human intelligence.
This was conveyed by Dr Nando de Freitas as a senior researcher at DeepMind, Google's artificial intelligence division. After a decade of realizing what he calls artificial general intelligence (AGI), DeepMind has designed an AI system that can perform complex tasks, from laying bricks to writing poetry.
Named as Gato AI, this DeepMind technology only needs to be developed a little more to create artificial intelligence that is able to match human intelligence.
"Gam over, game over. Now is the time to make the model bigger, safer, efficient, faster, memory smarter, data innovative. Completing the challenge will make AGI a reality," he wrote on Twitter.
The creation of AGI that can match the level of human intelligence actually worries scientists. One of them is Professor Nick Bostrom from Oxford University who speculates that such a super-intelligent artificial intelligence system has the potential to replace humans as dominant beings someday if not controlled.
One of the main concerns is that AGI, which may be able to educate itself and even one day be smarter than humans, will not be turned off and become a major disaster.
Responding to this, Dr Freitas emphasized that security is very important in developing artificial intelligence such as AGI. "Perhaps this is indeed the biggest challenge we face," he said as quoted by us from the Independent.
