Apple, Sony, Xiaomi and Huawei all have plans or have already produced their own brand of electric vehicles. Electric vehicles are seen as the next evolution for a technology company as the smartphone market is now increasingly saturated. Samsung is a company that has not yet announced they want to follow in the footsteps of Apple and Xiaomi. According to a report by The Korea Times citing two senior executives, Samsung is not interested in producing its own electric cars.
The main reason given is that it is not seen as a profitable investment. Samsung is currently offering components used by other companies on their vehicles. To avoid conflict, Samsung feels there is no reason for them to compete with customers who contribute to the company’s profits.
Despite having no plans to produce its own electric cars, Samsung has already signed a collaboration agreement with Hyundai to strengthen its commitment in the automotive industry. Hyundai for example has used battery packs from Samsung and Samsung has launched the Exynos Auto chip specifically for the automotive industry.
We may not be able to use the Samsung Galaxy Car but their technology will be found on other cars in the near future just as their phone screens, modems and camera sensors are used by other manufacturers.
