Get ready! More powerful Apple M2 Chip Coming Soon

Apple just released the Apple M2 chip used in the MacBook Air and Pro at WWDC 2022, and now news has emerged that the M2 Pro will also be released this year.

Based on a report from Haitong Intl Tech Research analyst Jeff Pu, TSMC will start mass production for the M2 Pro in 2022, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Wednesday (8/6/2022).

According to Jeff Pu's report, Apple is still using TSMC's services to produce the M2 Pro, just like their previous chips. The Taiwanese company will produce the M2 Pro using its newest process, namely 3nm.

For information, the M1 chip that was released in November 2020 is made using the 5nm process, as are its siblings such as the M1 Pro and M1 Max. Well, the M2 used in the new MacBook Air was made using the 5nm process.

That way, the M2 Pro should offer a significant increase in performance or power consumption efficiency compared to its predecessors.

Apple M2 itself is claimed to have an 18% faster CPU performance increase than the M1, with 35% faster graphics performance thanks to the use of 10 new GPU cores. Then the maximum RAM capacity of M2 is also higher, which is 24GB, compared to M1 which is only available in 8GB and 16GB RAM options.

In early 2022, Apple is also said to be working on a new Mac Mini that uses the M2 Pro chip, while developing a much faster chip for use in the Mac Pro.

If Pu's report is correct, then it appears that all high-end M2 chips will be manufactured using the 3nm process. The same report also mentions the Mac Pro is associated as "Apple's in-house server", and reportedly there will be a new iPad with a 3nm chip.
