GrabMaps Will Generate Full Mapping On Grab Apps By Third Quarter Of 2022

Grab today shared about GrabMaps, a mapping platform they developed themselves - and will be fully generating Grab services in the third quarter of 2022.

Grab says the current mapping system is not fully optimized for the Southeast Asian region. Sometimes, a number of areas are not mapped, and various areas are not listed. At the same time, the map is also not optimized for motorcycle users who have narrow or separate routes.

GrabMaps is seen to want to overcome this, and is more optimized for the Southeast Asian market.

Grab is already ready to develop its own database, in addition to working with the OpenStreetMaps community. Grab itself has added over 800,000 kilometers of roads on OpenStreetMap to date.

Grab with thousands of drivers and food deliverers on the road, they are ready to get real-time data, in forming a good mapping beneath them. At the same time, Grab also works with various partners - including business owners and drivers in obtaining mapping data such as parking locations, customer pick -ups, and more.

Grab also uses the “same-source” concept, where many drivers can also contribute a certain amount of data, and generate additional revenue through it.

GrabMaps offers not only location and parking, but also includes time to arrive at a destination, navigation support, real-time traffic support, as well as knowing various interesting nearby locations.

Grab says they will switch to using GrabMaps fully on their platform by the third quarter of 2022. The move is expected to further optimize operating costs, while offering greater accuracy in mapping.

Grab also stated they will offer GrabMaps to enterprises that need good mapping support.
