The Vivo X series is a Vivo device that focuses on photography. The photographic capabilities on the series of devices are indeed unique and different from what other brands offer. Aware of the greatness of this camera, Vivo began to focus on the camera part by working with Zeiss. The Vivo X60 is their first device with Zeiss which made me personally surprised with their camera capabilities.
But Vivo X70, it is not so attractive because the post-process takes a long time and is sold at a high price for a chip that should only be sold at a cheaper price. Now, they come with the X80 series. After about a month of me using the Vivo X80 Pro, dare I say this device has camera capabilities beyond my expectations and is absolutely fantastic. Both photos and videos, this device managed to beat many of this year’s flagship devices.
Just, is the price of RM4,999 good enough for a Vivo device or too expensive? In this review article I will share my usage experience and opinion on whether it is worth owning.

Consumption
The screen of this device is a 6.78-inch AMOLED QHD+ curved type, supports HDR10+ HLG display, as well as 120Hz refresh rate. The screen brightness of this device on me is good enough for daily use and during the month of use I have never had a problem with the screen of this device. It also has beautiful colors, is fun to use for watching various videos from various streaming platforms and the eyes will not feel tired due to the automatic brightness mode available as well as some eye protection features for the users.
The Vivo X80 Pro screen is no longer left behind and can be said to be on par with many of the flagship devices on the market today. This is not a surprise either, as the screen panel of this device is made by Samsung. Not only that, the screen panel of this device is also LTPO type for adaptive high refresh rate support. 120Hz on this device is also very smooth and fast, which means that animation transitions, scrolling and various uses will not cause any problems at all.
The device is also nice to hold, as the back panel is designed with a pretty rough finish. At the beginning of use it is a little weird, as it gives the experience as if there is a sandstone finish due to the luster used. But in fact, it is soft and rough with a rubber -like surface. It is soft and comfortable in the hand, but not slippery making it more comfortable to hold without any casing.
In the box, there’s a protective casing with a leather -like finish if you don’t like this smooth rubbery surface. The casing provided is also a thin type and does not protect even the giant -sized camera hump on this device.
On the back of this device, this giant camera hump reminds me of the Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra device, only it’s thinner. It has no second screen and is more of a mere design. The camera modules are all mounted on a round section with the periscope sensor located around the glass hump of the device.
The right side of the device is nothing, the left series has all the power buttons and volume buttons, the top has a microphone and infrared sensor and the bottom has another microphone, speaker lattice, USB-C port and SIM card slot. On the front, the phone’s algae lattice is not very visible as it is small and thin, then on the screen there is a hole in the top center for a selfie camera and the bezel is also very thin giving the illusion of an immersive overall screen.
Performance And Software
The performance of the Vivo X80 Pro is among the best for a device that uses a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processing chip. The memory used is 12GB of RAM with 4GB of RAM virtual memory. With this device, my daily use can be said to be smooth and there are no time lag problems. Every app opened fast, switching apps was also smooth, letting a lot of apps be locked and running in the background would also not interfere with my daily work.
From the end of Ramadan until the third week of Raya, this is my daily device. I am very satisfied with the performance on this device for simple use. Here the power of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 begins to shine through.
But, when playing the first problems began to arise. The device will start to heat up, but can still be held and not like the heat that happens on the Realme GT2 Pro. The first with high graphics like PUBG mobile can be played smoothly for one session without any problems with warm -up starting to occur in the second session. Lighter primers like Asphalt 9 are no problem to play in a few sessions.
Funtouch OS 12 based on Android 12 is the operating system used on this device. It’s a bit interesting and simple, but it still has a problem with the layout in the settings which in my opinion is a bit cluttered compared to competitors who already follow the original Android concept which is well organized and categorized. The use of Funtouch OS is quite interesting because it is easy to use, only Funtouch OS does not offer many interesting things like their Chinese version of Origin OS which focuses on widgets.
Their distinctive widgets are also unattractive as there is not much to use and there are annoying bugs. Then what I disliked was, this Vivo device still wants to use a lot of its own default apps. For example, phone call and messaging applications are a bit outdated and unattractive to use. While competitors have started using Google Phone and Google Message.
Most annoying is, every time an app is installed through the Play Store there will be ads that cannot be turned off. This only happens with the Play Store and does not happen if the installation is via an APK file.
Bench mark
The Vivo X80 Pro is also the only device I’ve ever tested to reach a score of close to a million on AnTuTu. The tests performed were also with cooling fan accessories for more optimal results. But Geekbench testing isn't as great as any competing devices.
AnTuTu 3D - 990,028
Geekbench 5 - 1165/3582
Competitor devices like the Xiaomi 12 Pro only received a score of 950,056 on AnTuTu and 1220/3506 on Geekbench. While on the iPhone 13 Pro Max it is only 789,647 on AnTuTu and 1716/4678 on Geekbench. As always, benchmark results are just numbers and real-world use by oneself is more important. I have already explained earlier, the performance of daily and first use does not give any direct problems which is quite satisfactory.
Camera
The Vivo X80 Pro once again focuses on the camera. Camera configuration is 50MP, f/1.6 (Main) + 8MP, f/3.4 (Telephoto) + 12MP, f/1.9 (Telephoto) + 48MP, f/2.2 (Ultra Wide Angle) with OIS gimbal support, 5x Optical Zoom, Zeiss T* lenses and pretty amazing software.
The camera app is easy to use. It has a Zeiss icon that can be turned on or off, giving users the choice of whether to use a Zeiss color profile or an artificial intelligence system on a device powered by the Vivo V1 +’s own ISP. This combination of Zeiss collaboration and the use of its own ISP makes the image and video results on this device more satisfying than the competition. The color profiles and effects on each image are also different and arguably unique.
The big problem with the camera is just the performance alone. In just about 10 minutes of use, the device starts to experience serious heating problems where it heats up so hard to hold. Its heat level is the hottest so far for 2022. It heats up on the side of the device and on the screen as well as on the back panel.
For camera quality, surprisingly this is among the best for a Vivo flagship device I’ve ever used. Compared to the X50 and X60, the X70 is the best so far. It focuses on the use of portraits as if they were a Zeiss SLR camera. It doesn’t have a good focus, but more of a soft effect and a unique blur effect. There are many Zeiss filter options for portraits as well as the use of automatic Zeiss mode is also included.
The color results produced by the camera of this device are quite beautiful, bright and have clear details when the automatic mode is used and the artificial intelligence mode is activated. Other modes are also I am very satisfied with its quality, such as AI Group mode which is smart when taking group photos, ultra wide angle mode which is satisfying, pretty macro mode, and many more interesting modes built in for users to express their own creativity.
The video on me isn’t that great, compared to the previous X50 and X60. It seemed to be more vibrant and the new thing I realized was just on a slightly brighter color. The video results are also seen to be getting sharper and lacking good focus. Only the stabilization looks a little weird because it looks like digital stabilization only.
Audio
Vivo is particularly difficult to offer stereo speakers, making the device difficult to recommend to fans of audio -conscious devices. The X80 Pro supports stereo mode, but it’s not balanced enough. It is strong on the bottom and does not provide a satisfactory use experience.
Fingerprint Scanners And Additional Sensors
It’s pretty rare to see other devices that aren’t Xiaomi or Redmi provide infrared sensors. But this device has one if the user wants to control the television, fan and so on. Most interesting is the fingerprint scanner at the bottom of the screen. The Vivo X80 Pro has the fastest fingerprint scanner to date, in fact I was pleasantly surprised because in the blink of an eye it could detect my finger. The space for finger scans can also be adjusted for small to large sizes.
Battery
Since I use a device powered with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processing chip, it’s rare with use I receive battery life as much as a Snapdragon 865 device a few years ago. I realize my use with this chip is only around 4-5 hours SOT. Whereas previously with the same use, I could accept 6-7 hours of SOT endurance, this time it was very difficult. But it's better than the Snapdragon 888.
In my test, if the use is lighter there is no problem at all to receive around 6 hours of maximum SOT. Charging, on the other hand, is only 80W which is actually quite fast. But I’m already comfortable with 120W charging, 80W keeps me looking forward to it.
The Vivo X80 Pro also supports wireless charging and wireless reverse charging. I rarely use it, as it is not fast and for reverse wireless charging it rarely works well.

Conclusion
For fans of basic photography and video, this device can indeed provide a beautiful and satisfying result. The screen is also smooth, beautiful and great, pretty fast charging and attractive design. But the problem with the software and heating is an unacceptable thing for a device that costs almost RM5000.
The Vivo X80 Pro focuses on Zeiss SLR -like camera quality, which this style of picture and video may not be to everyone’s liking. For those who are interested, the X80 Pro is sold at a price of RM4,999. It's a bit expensive, the zoom isn't that good and has pretty great specs. Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra with 8GB RAM has reached RM5099, another good alternative that I can recommend is the Oppo Find X5 Pro. Same price, but the software and kame4ra I would say are among the best matches so far.
You decide for yourself, what money you will spend and expensive devices like these are for long term use.
