Studies Show Covid-19 Increases The Risk Of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's And Stroke

We are now increasingly comfortable living in a pre-endemic phase with many starting to live like the pandemic is over. However, the number of new daily infections has increased again in Malaysia along with deaths. For those starting to be safe, a recent study presented at the European Academy of Neurology Congress warns that the long-term risks of Covid-19 are not over yet.

Data of almost half of the Danish population from 2020 to 2021 were used in this study. Researchers found that individuals who had been infected with Covid-19 were 3.5 times more likely to have Alzheimer's, 2.6 times more likely to have Parkinson's and 2.6 times more likely to have a stroke.

This study is in line with previous studies that found influenza and pneumonia patients were at higher risk of getting none of the aforementioned diseases. Influenza and pneumonia are two concomitant diseases that Covid-19 patients suffer from

Scientists are still conducting studies to find out the true long-term effects of Covid-19 on the human body. Just three months ago prolonged Covid patients showed they were experiencing serious cognitive effects
