The 2022 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) event opened with the announcement of iOS 16. Many changes and new features were introduced by Apple, what are they?
New Lock Screen
Apple brings a new lock screen. Interestingly, users can customize the elements in it, from the typeface to placing the widget.
"This is the biggest update ever to the lock screen, reimagining how it works," said Craig Federighi, senior vice president of software engineering at Apple.
Users can use the lock screen from the wallpaper collection. In order not to cover the lock screen, Apple moved notifications at the bottom.
There are also Live Activities that combine notifications and widgets to provide users with the latest information. This helps users stay up-to-date with things happening in real time, such as football match scores, ride-sharing statuses or food delivery orders.
Not to forget Focus Mode can now be easily accessed from the lock screen, users can even customize wallpapers and widgets according to the selected options.
Messages
Apple is now providing an edit option so users can correct typo messages. In addition, Undo Send is provided which allows users to cancel sending messages.
Users can now view SharePlay-enabled apps on FaceTime. Apple provides a SharePlay button in Messages, so users can type messages while watching.
Dictation
Apple enhanced the capabilities of the Dictation feature that allows users to seamlessly switch between voice and touch. The keyboard stays open while you dictate, so users can type at any time with ease.
Apple also provides Live Text on videos. The user can pause the video in the frame then highlight the text. Furthermore, the highlighted text can be copied or converted to currency, translated text, and much more.
Equally interesting is Visual Look Up which allows users to tap and hold on the subject of the image to remove it from the background and place it in apps like Messages. The Look Up visuals have also been expanded to recognize birds, insects, and statues.
Pay Later
For people in Indonesia, paylater is not foreign anymore. Many financial services provide this facility.
Apple provides a similar service in its payment features. With Apple Pay Later, users can buy first and pay later after four to six weeks after the transaction.
Well, the cool thing is that Apple does not charge for those who use this service.
Share Shared Photos on iCloud
iCloud Shared Photo Library gives families a new way to share photos seamlessly with a separate iCloud library that up to six users can collaborate on, contribute to, and enjoy.
Users can choose to share existing photos from their personal library, or share by start date or the people in the photos. Users can also choose to send photos to the Shared Library automatically using a new switch in the Camera app.
Users can now schedule emails and are even given time to unsend messages before they reach recipients' inboxes. Mail detects if a user forgot to include an important part of their message, such as an attachment.
Users also have the option to recall messages at any time with Remind Later, and Follow Up automatically reminds users to follow up on emails if they haven't received a response.
Mail also includes the biggest overhaul to search, and uses advanced techniques to provide more relevant, accurate, and complete results. Users see recent emails, contacts, documents, and links when they start searching for emails.
