The long -range missile system or multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) will be delivered by the United States and the United Kingdom to Ukraine. Experts agree this weapon is the most powerful, sent by western countries so far. But it seems that the number deployed is less.
The US will send about 4 units of MLRS system type M142 Himars. While England is more or less the same. Well, that number according to Ukraine is much less to beat back Russia or even beat them.
Oleksiy Arestovych, Ukraine's military adviser, believes the long -range missile will change the game. Unfortunately, according to him, the number is not enough to beat Russia.
"The fewer MLRS we get, the worse the situation will be. Our troops will continue to lose and lose footing," he was quoted as saying by the Guardian on Tuesday (7/6/2022).
MLRS that can shoot tens or even hundreds of kilometers are the most advanced weapons that Ukraine will have. Well in order to be effective against Russia, Ukraine needs about 60 MLRS units.
"If we get 60 of those systems, then Russia will lose all ability to move forward. They will stop. If we get 40, they can still move forward, but very slowly with big casualties, with 20, they will keep moving forward but more casualties. from now on, "he explained.
In fact, the United States has hundreds of MLRS weapon systems and the United Kingdom has dozens, so they could have sent more. But perhaps with various considerations, only a small amount was given to Ukraine.
Ukraine wants new weapons as the war intensifies in the Donbas region. With the battlefield in a more rural area, the war could be determined by who had the long -range weapon system.
"Himars provide massive weapon upgrades. The impact is the same as armament using fighter jets," said Rita Konaev, an academic from Georgetown University.
Russia also has an MLRS system, but American technology is said to be able to reach farther and more accurate targets. But now, as the war begins closer to Russian territory, their power is more centralized.
No wonder Ukraine wants long -range missiles. They may already know what targets need to be shot, but can't do so with current weapons due to limited range.
