Last May, Google was reported to be developing a feature to detect coughs and snoring through smartphones. It is a move by Google to further expand their strategy in health technology, such as using the phone's camera to become a dermatology tool to detect skin diseases or scan the pulse and check the breathing rate.
This feature is then said to be built on Digital Wellbeing through Bedtime Mode to monitor the user's health while sleeping. With the launch of the Google Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro yesterday, these two devices officially became the first to support this feature.
The Digital Wellbeing application will use the built-in microphone on the Pixel 7. The snoring detection feature can identify how many times snoring and coughing occur during sleep according to the bedtime setting in Bedtime Mode. It will be calculated by minutes and hours and the data will be displayed in the form of a timeline for monitoring users.
All data takes place in the device and will not be uploaded to Google servers. This feature is also enabled due to the greater power of artificial intelligence through the Google Tensor G2 processing chip.
