Apple Map and Google Maps have a 3D mode that allows buildings, roads, trees and topography to be seen in three dimensions. This mode is very useful for users to see for themselves the condition of an area before visiting. Petal Maps, which is Huawei's own mapping system, will soon have the same features.
Richard Yu, president of Huawei's mobile device business announced Petal Maps 3D is being developed by the company. A 3D map of 5 square kilometers can be generated by the Huawei system in just 30 minutes. In a shared demo video, the entire Huawei campus in Dongguan is recreated in 3D in Petal Maps.
In addition to the exterior, the map also supports 3D room mapping in buildings as well as showing weather conditions as introduced in Google Maps recently. This feature will be rolled out to users in China first.
