Telegram is a popular messaging platform because it is said to be more secure than other platforms such as WhatsApp and WeChat, and sharing digital content is easier to do on Telegram than on other platforms.
But in India recently, Telegram has reportedly given the details of channel administrators to the country's government to reduce the rampant piracy issue.
According to a TechCrunch report, this happened when a teacher, Neetu Singh sued Telegram because there were a number of channels and groups selling her learning content without her permission.
Telegram says that it is difficult for them to provide user details to the government because their server machines are in Singapore and it is difficult to gain access to user information without a valid reason.
But the Indian government remains adamant on the matter, and now appears to have provided details of the names, phone numbers and even IP addresses of the managers and administrators of these networks.
This is seen to have a negative impact on Telegram where they previously said that they do not store user data, and are seen as a strong messaging platform.
