Twitter Founder Apologizes for Elon Musk's Layoffs

Twitter founder and former CEO, Jack Dorsey, has spoken out about the layoffs of thousands of Twitter employees at the behest of its new owner, Elon Musk. He apologized for feeling partly responsible.

"Partners on Twitter both past and present are strong and tough. They always find a way no matter how difficult it is at the moment," he wrote on Twitter.

"I realized that many were angry with me. I am responsible for why everyone is in this situation, I grew the company too fast, I'm sorry for that," he said.

"I am grateful and love everyone who has worked at Twitter. I did not expect that attitude to be reciprocated at this time or forever, and I understand it," he concluded.

Dorsey stepped down as CEO of Twitter at the end of 2021, replaced by Parag Agrawal. Parag and a number of Twitter officials had already been dismissed by Elon Musk once he was confirmed to be the new ruler of the microblogging site.

As quoted by us from CNBC, in 2013 before Twitter's IPO or floor on the stock exchange, the number of their employees was around 2,000 people. At the end of last year, the number had increased rapidly to more than 7,500 full time employees.

Dorsey founded Twitter in 2006 with his colleagues, Noah Glass, Biz Stone and Evan Williams. He has twice served as CEO of Twitter.

He also backed Elon Musk's acquisition of Twitter for $44 billion. "This is the right path, I believe in it with all my heart," he said of it.
