Previously Xiaomi filed several patents for foldable screen devices. Some look like the Fold and some look like the Mate X. But so far only the Mi MIX Fold device has been launched. But this is a prototype Xiaomi device that looks like a Mate X has been leaked.
The outer screen opens out with a large bump on the side that houses the quad camera system. The device is equipped with a Snapdragon 855 and also a 3500 mAh battery. It is not known why this device did not launch but it is most likely due to the vulnerable screen issue. In China there are many reports that this open-out screen design is more easily damaged than the one used on the MIX Fold and Z Fold.
What Xiaomi has yet to offer is a competitor to the Flip series with only Motorola and Huawei offering devices with a similar design. With the price of foldable screen devices expected to become cheaper year after year, perhaps in 2023 we will be able to see more devices with this design.
