We hate driving at night because there are other road users who use blinding HID lights or who forget to lower their high beams. Porsche is aware of this issue and has developed a smart lighting system that solves this issue and at the same time still offers the brightest lighting they have ever produced.
One lamp module developed has 16,384 micro LEDs each of which can be controlled separately. At a maximum brightness of 1,400 lumens, this lamp can illuminate a dark road up to a distance of 600 meters. Each LED has 1,024 brightness levels that can be changed. Each lamp is equipped with two lamps which means 32,768 micro LEDs arranged in a 2×2 configuration.
Although it can achieve a high level of brightness, these lights are smart enough to prevent them from blinding the driver in front. At night for example, part of the LED segment for the high beam will be turned off to avoid blinding the driver in front. All these features work automatically without any input from the driver required.
