Alphabet Inc which is the parent company of Google announced they will cut up to 12,000 jobs. This is equivalent to 6% of their total energy. The announcement was made by CEO Sundar Pichai with a workforce reduction process involving staff around the world.
Employees in every Alphabet business will be affected but the impact will be more on those involved in hiring and those outside the company's core business. With the world predicted to experience an economic downturn this year, major technology companies are starting to lay off workers as a cost-cutting measure.
Just yesterday Microsoft announced 10,000 employees will be laid off which is the largest number ever done in the history of the company.
