Is This Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra's 200 MP Camera Sensor?

 


Samsung released a new camera sensor called Isocell HP2 which has a resolution of 200MP. Will it be used on the Galaxy S23 Ultra?

Rumors of the use of Isocell HP2 in the Galaxy S23 Ultra appear because the specifications of the new sensor are exactly the same as the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera rumors that were previously circulating.


For example, the sensor size is 1/1.3 inch and the pixel size is 0.6 micrometer. Then the launch time of this new sensor, which is only a few weeks before the launch of the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is rumored to be on February 9, was quoted by us from The Verge, Tuesday (17/1/2023).



What is really interesting about this new 200MP sensor besides its large resolution? Samsung has released a 200MP sensor many years ago, but until now they have never used the sensor in their HP flagship.



For example, the Galaxy S22 Ultra released in 2022 which "only" uses a 108MP sensor in its main camera. The advantage of this sensor with a large resolution is clearly not in its resolution.


But on its pixel binning feature, which combines a number of pixels into one. For example, in Isocell HP2, four pixels can be combined into a 1.2 micron pixel with a 50MP resolution, or 16 pixels can be combined into a 2.4 micron pixel with a 12.5MP resolution.


The 4 in 1 pixel binning mode can be used to record 8K video with a frame rate of 30fps, and the sensor also supports 4K HDR recording mode with a frame rate of 60fps.


Then in this Isocell HP2, Samsung also has a new technology called Dual Vertical Transfer Gate that can help the sensor reduce overexposure (too bright) images and produce better colors in bright conditions.


Meanwhile, to improve image quality in low-light conditions, this sensor is also equipped with Super QPD to increase its autofocus speed.


Samsung said that the Isocell HP2 is currently mass-produced, which further adds to the confidence that this sensor will be used in their flagship HP.
