Samsung Launches 200MP ISOCELL HP2 Sensor

Samsung launched their latest 200MP sensor ISOCELL HP2. This sensor has a pixel size of 0.6 μm and at the same time has a physical size of 1/1.3" which is usually used on a 108MP sensor.

With the HP2, Samsung says higher-resolution photos can be taken without increasing the device's camera bump. Because of its large megapixel size, the HP2 can change modes depending on the situation. In dark situations for example a 12.5MP photo can be taken with 16 pixels combined into one for a brighter and sharper night image.

For 8k 30p video recording, pixels are combined to take video in 50MP mode. This is a larger megapixel size than the required 33MP. The result is sharper video.

According to Samsung, with the Dual Vertical Transfer Gate (D-VTG) technology, the image issue with lifeless colors and overexposure can be solved. The sensor is also equipped with a Super QPD focusing system with a total of 200MP pixels used to produce a fast focusing system. Production of the sensor has been done but the first company to use ISOCELL HP2 has not been announced.
