T-Mobile, one of the famous telecommunications companies in the United States recently confirmed that their customer database was accessed by hackers, where the personal details of 37 million of their customers were accessed and stolen.
This was announced by T-Mobile during their recent financial presentation. This happened around the end of last year where hackers used the API to access the data.
T-Mobile became aware of this a month later, and has since fixed it, and the API is no longer publicly accessible.
Customer data such as name, billing address, e-mail address, telephone number, date of birth, account number and also the plan subscribed to. Customers affected by this hack have also been notified, and advised to change their account passwords.
In the meantime, T-Mobile also confirmed that the company's internal system was not accessed by the hacker, and after research, no evidence was found where the matter had taken place.
Interestingly, this is not the second or third time the telecommunications company has been hacked. With this latest incident, it was also reported that T-Mobile has been hacked 8 times so far.
