Sad news enveloped the entertainment industry, both movies and games. Annie Wersching, a film actor as well as one of the voice actors in the game The Last of Us has passed away.
Naughty Dog Co-President Neil Druckmann said this sad news via his personal Twitter today, Monday, January 30 2023. He admitted that his day felt ruined after Werching's departure.
"Just found out my dear friend, Annie Wersching, passed away. We just lost a beautiful artist and human being. My heart is shattered. Thoughts are with her loved ones," wrote Druckmann, as quoted by us from Elon Musk's social media , Monday (30/1/2023).
It was rumored that Werching had been battling cancer for two years. Precisely in the summer of 2020, he was diagnosed with this malignant disease.
It is known that Werching has an important role in bringing Tess' character to life in The Last of Us game. Tess is told as a tough survivor, and works with Joel to carry out various kinds of smuggling.
When referring to the game, Tess died because she had to fight with a group of armed people. Unlike what is offered in the film series on HBO.
HBO's The Last of Us depicts how Tess finally had to give her life to a bunch of zombies. Her efforts to contain the undead are due to a condition that Joel and Ellie know about Tess who has been infected.
So while Joel and Ellie were escaping, Tess was busy setting up a trap for the zombies with petrol and some grenades, finally creating a huge explosion.
Werching's departure drew much sympathy from his fans. Many of the netizens expressed their sadness through Druckmann's posts.
"I can't believe this. I loved her work so much. Tess is my favorite character solely because of her. I'm so sick for her poor family," wrote @Annemarieb_10
"I'm so sad to hear this. Had no idea she was fighting cancer. She was so good at what she did. RIP," continued @NewsiesMario.
"Very Sad to Hear this. Annie was a Great Actress to Play Tess. We will all miss her," said @LolaClemntine.
Meanwhile, episode 3 of The Last of US has launched on HBO. Fans can now continue to see Joel and Ellie's struggle to survive to their destination after Tess' death in Episode 2.
