Western Digital And Kioxia In Talks To Merge Storage Chip Manufacturing Business

Digital storage product maker Western Digital is a familiar brand, while Kioxia is a storage chip maker that was developed after being sold by Toshiba a few years ago.

Western Digital and Kioxia are arguably friends in the storage chip development industry, and Bloomberg has recently reported that the two companies are in talks to merge their storage chip manufacturing businesses.

This is not surprising as these two companies share locations and equipment to develop their storage products and components.

In fact, lately it has been seen that Western Digital has also started using NAND developed by Kioxia for some of their digital storage offerings.

If this merger happens, it is reported that this company will be gazetted in the United States, and will be managed by a group of managers from Western Digital.

This is not the first time these two companies have discussed merging their businesses. In 2021, Western Digital and Kioxia have also discussed merging their two brands to become one company, with the combination valued at $20 billion (~RM85 billion).
