Instagram Founder Launches Artifact, A TikTok-Like App For Articles

An issue we often see on social media is that young people no longer want to read. Everything needs to be delivered in video format so TikTok becomes the go-to option for getting answers. Logically, in order to compete with TikTok, new apps need to offer similar but better features.

Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger who are the founders of Instagram have launched a new app called Artifact. Through it, users will be recommended articles that can be read based on an algorithm like TikTok. Users are asked to select topics of interest and follow other users on the platform. More relevant article suggestions will be provided all the time.

In the initial stage articles from The New York Times and The Washington Post will be recommended to users. At a glance Artifact is like Twitter but only for readable articles. At this time Artifact is still in closed beta with a waiting list to try it.
