The iOS 17 update is being prepared by Apple to be introduced at the 2023 Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC). It is said that there are three iPhone models that will not receive the update.
Information revealed by Mark Gurman, a Bloomberg analyst, states that iOS 17 doesn't bring any major changes. Because Apple's focus is more on the AR / VR headset which is planned to be launched this year.
Mark said Apple engineers were busy developing the xrOS operating system. So that iOS 17 and iPadOS 17 were ruled out, which resulted in updating the iPhone and iPad operating systems not making significant changes.
This contrasts with iOS 16 which was released last year. Apple provides many changes and new features, so that its presence is quite eagerly awaited by users.
For this reason, Mark warns users not to expect a lot of new features in the latest iOS.
But ironically, when iOS 17 didn't bring any significant changes, Apple ended support for devices powered by the A11 Bionic chip. Devices that are embedded in the chip include:
Actually it is not surprising that these three cellphones no longer receive iOS 17 operating system updates. This is considering that they are 6 years old.
With 5 years of support, it's actually long enough. Especially if you look in the mirror at the majority of Android vendors who only provide support for 2-3 years of OS updates.
Maybe Apple wants users of the three iPhone models to upgrade to the latest version so they can sample the AR/VR experience that's being prepared. It is feared that the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X are not optimal enough to present a virtual world, as quoted from Macrumorsa.
