Snapdragon X Elite Launched – More Powerful Than M2 Max And Intel i9-13980HX

The Snapdragon X Elite chip has been officially launched a while ago and according to leaked information it is a dedicated chip for ARM-based PCs that competes directly with Apple Silicon's M series chips. It is equipped with 12 Qualcomm Oryon CPU cores with a speed of 3.8 GHz. These two cores can be overclocked up to 4.3 GHz when needed for heavier tasks.

The X Elite is produced through 4nm technology and the Oryon CPU is matched with an Adreno GPU that has a power of up to 4.6 TFLOPs which is comparable to an Xbox Series S.

Qualcomm is focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) processing capabilities directly on devices through the X Elite. Therefore Qualcomm Hexagon NPU with 45 TOP capability is included once and can run AI LLM with 13 billion parameters directly without the data having to be sent to the cloud first.

On stage the Oryon CPU used in the X Elite has one core performance higher than the Apple M2 Max and the Intel Core i9-13980HX. In terms of power consumption it reduces energy consumption at peak power by 30% compared to the M2 Max and 70% compared to the Core i9-13980HX. This according to Qualcomm makes it the most powerful mobile computer chip to date.

According to Qualcomm X Elite has up to 60% better performance in multi-threaded processing than the competing Intel Core i7-13800H. GPU performance is up to double at 74% lower power consumption than Intel Core i7-13800H.

As a chip for laptops, it supports a 4K 120FPS screen with HDR10 or the connection of up to two 5K 60FPS monitors. The USB-4 system is also supported along with LPDDR5X memory, UFS 4.0 storage, bluetooth 5.4, WiFi 7, and a 64MP camera. Through the Snapdragon X65 modem, connection to 5G Sub-6GHz and mmWave networks is also possible built-in.

The first laptop using the Snapdragon Elite will be on the market in mid-2024. More importantly, Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon confirmed that the Oryon CPU will begin to be used on mobile chips to replace the Kryo CPU starting in 2024, which will certainly provide improved performance on future Android devices.
