At CES Sony has shown off a mixed reality (XR) headset designed specifically for producing 3D content. This headset is equipped with a Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 chip as well as a 4K OLED screen inside. Also visible are six sensors and a camera on the exterior of the headset to provide a see-through mode and track the movements of the two controls being used.
The controller for the head is quite unique as it is like a normal VR game controller on the right side and another in the form of a ring worn on the finger. In the demo shown at CES, the right-hand controller is used for more precise control while the ring controller is used to manipulate objects.
According to Sony this headset will make it easier for creators to produce 3D content as they can move around objects in the XR world. In the early stages they collaborated with Siemens to support the NX Immersive Designer software. The headset will go on sale this year but the price has not been announced.
