United States Senate Passes Bill Banning TikTok

Last weekend the United States House of Representatives passed a bill that would force Bytedance to sell its TikTok business if it wanted to continue operating in their country. Today the same bill passed the Senate and is just waiting for the signature of President Biden for it to be enforced.

President Biden has already said he will sign this bill if it passes the House of Representatives and the Senate. When it goes into effect, Bytedance will be given up to a year to sell the business.

However, Bytedance has insisted that it does not want to sell TikTok and instead will sue the US government to oppose the bill which is seen as unfair. The reason it violates the right to free speech of the American people according to the country's constitution will be used. This tactic has already been successfully done by Bytedance to overturn the order banning TikTok in Montana in December of this year.
