Two years ago, Apple was sued by a Gizmodo writer for claiming that the film Tetris starring Taron Egerton and directed by John S. Baird copied his book The Tetris Effect: The Game That Hypnotized the World. The suit was filed after Ackerman shared the book excerpt with The Tetris Company and found that the film's storyline was similar to the book, but Ackerman was threatened not to produce this film himself.
Most recently, Apple has reportedly won again. The court ruled that the Apple Originals film titled Tetris has no similarity to Ackerman's excerpt from his book because the storytelling is designed differently. The story presentation is also different. The similarities are only in fact, which is not a problem for use on Apple TV.
This is not the first time Apple has won a lawsuit against Apple Originals content. Previously, the TV series Servant was also claimed to have been copied but was successfully proven not to have been. Cases like this often happen, when the popularity of a quote from film A is not enough but a quote from film B with the same concept and storyline is selling well – the creator of film A will try to sue the creator of film B.
